DOG BREEDS
There are hundreds of different kinds of dog
breeds. The American Kennel Club lists approximately 125 breeds and
I'm sure there are many others. Hence when it comes for people to
make a selection of a dog as a pet it becomes quite difficult.
Breeds of dogs can be classified further by their characteristics.
While most dogs can do most things but the reason
for classification is that some breeds are better at doing
particular things than other breeds of dogs.
The Border Collie for instance are the choice when it comes to using
dogs for sheep herding. Dogs in this category are classified as
working dogs.
Dobermans of course appear to be the choice of guard dogs. German
Shepherds are normally the choice when it comes to police dogs.
Then there are some dogs identified as sporting dogs. These include
breeds such as Retrievers, Spaniels and Jack Russell dogs.
Golden Retrievers, Labradors, and German Shepherds are the popular choices when it comes to guide dogs.
Guide dogs are known as seeing dogs by some. Guide dogs are trained to guide the blind and visually impaired move around and are used all over the world by people who need help moving around due to impaired vision.
Without such dogs to help them these people would to be helpless unless they got human assistance in moving around.
If you have children around then you may want a pet dog that is considered good with children around them.
Labrador, Golden Retriever, Beagle, Collie and the Irish Setter are some of the breeds that fall into the category of being suitable for children.
If you are on the look out for a pet dog, It is well worth the time to do your research before buying a dog. Check around with other dog owners to get more information on the breed they have as a pet.
Speak to salesmen at pet stores about the choice of a pet most suitable to you and your family.
People selling dogs, at least the majority of them will steer you in the right direction.
